PIPM: Pretty in Pink Megan: September 2008

Inquisitive Tuesday

Due to my lack of motivation and ideas this morning, I am going to try out an idea that Le Petite posted on last week.

Ask me any question in the world in my comment section and I will answer all of the questions in a blog post tomorrow. This will be a good way for you all to get to know me a little better!

Don't be shy, y'all. Ask away :-)

Things I'm Lovin'

Get ready for a long list of things I'm lovin' ... it's been one of those weeks!

1. I am lovin' my SEC teams!! First of all, way to go BAMA! I don't necessarily have any ties to the tide except for Rob, but still, they are doing great this year! Also, what about Ole Miss beating Florida?! Oxford is about 30 mins south of Memphis, so Memphis is a HUGE Ole Miss fan base. I still have love for my Kentucky wildcats who beat WKU this past weekend. I will be in town for the Kentucky/Arkansas game and I'm super excited for the triple threat (for all of my non-Lextonians, triple threat = Kenneland+Late Football Game+ Going Out).

2. This new song by Lady Gaga and Akon ... I just love it!

3. My new booties that I am excited to try with skinny jeans. I am finally going to succomb to this look and give it a whirl! I think it's super cute!
4. Ordering these ADORABLE flats from Jcrew.com ... I mean, could you get any cuter?
5. The October issue of Vogue ... they have an awesome article on the new obsession with long eyelashes. I just love Vogue!

Also, FYI- A brand spankin' new season of Dexter and Californiacation starts Sunday night on Showtime. If you haven't watched either of these shows you are missing out. They are both incredible!

Violation #2

Last night, I left JCrew yet again feeling brutally violated by how many things I purchased. I just couldn't help it! Items that were on sale were an additional 40% off!!! I got a pair of adorable flats for just 40 something dollars (originally 198!!!!). I also got a killer silk taffeta dress for like 30 something dollars.

Among the purchases I'm most excited about:

This cowl-neck sweater dress in heather gray:

This long cardigan which I plan on belting:

This blouse which is so freakin' cute:

I did not see this sweater at our Jcrew store, but hello, how freakin' cute is it? I want this whole outfit:

Lost Lost Lost

Okay, so really ... how did I never watch LOST? Randomly, the other night I caught the "pilot" episode on late night TV. I never watched LOST before and actually never had any interest in watching it, but for some reason I was bored enough to pay attention ... OMG. Lost is now my new favorite show. I immediately made Rob download the whole first season via his "secret website" and I have now completed episodes 1-5. I seriously could not stop watching Lost episodes yesterday on my day off. The first season includes 25 episodes, so I will have to have another marathon when I get home from work today. I am seriously obsessed with this show now. What a good story line! Is anyone else obsessed with Lost?

On another note ... I LOVE Kanye West's new single "Love Lockdown" ... I love his new electronic approach to his music. Listen here: Love Lockdown

Lastly, Apple is bahaving much better. She is the sweetest little dog. She constantly has to be next to someone. Thank all of you for your kind words of advice about dog training. She is very thin and her foster Mom encouraged us to try and fatten her up. She doesn't really like our 6 star premium dog food, so her foster Mom suggested COOKING for her. At first I was like, uhhhhhh no thanks, but the more I thought about it, their dog food is made of chicken and rice, so why not attempt to cook for them one night to see how it worked? Also, before we got Apple she almost died and had to be put on an IV for stress-induced pancreatitis. Last night I tried cooking for them and it worked great! Last night I boiled them some chicken breasts and rice and they lapped it right up! I don't know if this is going to be a permanent thing, but our first priority is getting some weight on Apple, so we'll see!

Here is Apple in her new fall sweater:

Woof Woof

Whew ... it's nice to take a break from doggie world, even though they are both scratching to get on my lap at the current moment. Things are getting better, though I am noticing that Apple (our new rescue) is the one starting the growling and possessive behaviors. I didn't know it was possible for a dog to get so obsessed with their owner in only two short days. These girls are a handful, I'll tell you that. I was off yesterday, so I have spent two full days with them and they are starting to drive me up the wall! I hope these behaviors start to go away. I mean, what do you do to a rescue that constantly wants attention ... comes with the territory, right? I feel so bad for Apple, but then the second I show Apple more attention than Miss P, Miss P starts to bark and scowl.

On a lighter note, I freakin' love Pei Wei. Do you all have Pei Wei in your cities? Pei Wei is a lighter version of PF Changs. I would say R and I get take out from PW at least once a week. I either get Chicken Pad Thai or the Terayaki Bowl. It is very inexpensive and the servings are HUGE. I can eat on one serving for about three meals!

Meet Apple!

Yesterday we drove down to Jackson, Mississippi to pick up our new rescue brussels, Apple. She is so sweet, but just a little scared of everything. I think it's going to take a week or so for her to get used to her new surroundings and psycho sister, Miss P. Yesterday the two would not stop growling at each other. They actually got in a little scuffle when Apple attempted to jump in my lap. Any advice from the dog-savvy would be appreciated.

Here we are in Mississippi picking up Apple (we took Max along for the ride):

tv updates

Okay, so my new show is The Rachel Zoe Project on Bravo. I have always been obsessed with Rachel Zoe (pre-nic richie redo) and I love love love her style. Basically she has my dream job as a celebrity stylist. Also, her and her husband are so cute together! Here is the preview for RZP:

Also, who else watches the saga that is Sunset Tan? I just can't get enough of this show. What about Nick? He is really starting to get on my nerves. He does some weird pursing thing with his lip every time he talks and it's starting to get annoying to watch. Has anyone else noticed how fast he talks? Does he have ADD? And what's with Ania creating her own fashion line? What is it with these people that get on these reality TV shows and then think they're the next Coco Chanel? Get with it!

100th post!

WOW! I cannot believe that this is my 100th post. I started this little blog in March just for some sort of creative outlet and look at me now! I remember that I was so excited when I received my first comment. I love all of my readers and enjoy looking at other blogs as well. I have always loved creative writing and editorial writing, so I feel that having a blog is the perfect medium to share my stories, fashion finds, and rants.

We just started carrying a new line out of NYC called "Nancy Rose". The line is tres chic and unique. I have already put in some special orders for dresses and such. You can view her fall line here.

Also, we got in some killer DVF dresses this week.

I think either one would be great for a fall wedding or event. I love the pink one, of course, because it has ruffles and a bow. Very Milly-esque.

Miss P's first hair cut

Today I hesitantly took Miss P to get her first hair cut and grooming session. I was worried that she would attack the groomer like she attacks and harasses us when we try to trim her eye hairs. I was SO pleased with the result. I think she looks adorable. It is easy to butcher a Brussels Griffon haircut. The standard Brussels look is a little too serious looking for Miss P's carefree lifestyle, so I told them to just trim her up a bit. Her Vet is so great ... they are so nice and offer everything from boarding to grooming. Plus, it was only 15 dollars (shut up)!!! It costs more to get my eyebrows done! She got her hair cut, bathed, nails trimmed, ears cleaned, and all for a mere 15 dollars.
It was a pleasant surprise :)

A Chill in the Air: Fall trend report part I

So as most of you probably experienced, yesterday was so windy! It was windy and chilly here in Memphis. I know my friends in Louisville experienced power outages due to the wind! The chill in the air has really got me in the mood for fall clothes. So much that I went to JCrew and stocked up on some fall pieces.

I am most excited about my yellow scarf. I love the whole concept of the "outfit scarf" ... some scarfs are meant specifically for winter coats and cold weather, but recently there has been a trend of "outfit scarfs" that are just worn with a short-sleeved tee or long-sleeved t-shirts. I have been hesitant to try this look, but I became inspired in the Jcrew dressing room! The scarf has to be light weight and thin to pull off the look. Here is the one that I purchased (except mine is yellow):

Also, belting is back! A big trend for fall is to belt cardigans, vests, high-waisted skirts, and even casual tees. I purchased this belt at Jcrew:

One of my friends at work has this Michael Kors belt, and it is to die for:

Last, mustard yellow is a GREAT color for fall. I got a ruffle cardigan and a ruffle blouse in mustard yellow. The cashier probably thought that I was crazy with all of the yellow I was purchasing!

Weekend Updates

First of all, I spy a chanel box! uh oh! Do any of my ATL readers know Glenn at the Saks ladies shoe salon? He is great! I called the DAY the shoes came in at Saks. Glenn hooked a sister up :)

Second, I added a new playlist to my blog. It is inspired from my time abroad in Paris. I miss Paris a lot and can't wait to go back! Check out some of the songs. They are really cool and different. I am really into "different" music. I love world music and electronic and trance (crazy!).

Third, we were supposed to be in Shreveport this weekend for an engagement party, but with the hurricane we didn't think it would be such a good idea to travel. Rob and I decided to check out the Cooper-Young festival here in Memphis (midtown, specifically).

It was such a nice day and the booths were so cool. I swear there was a booth for everything. We even had a nutella and banana crepe which reminded me of the little crepe booth by the Fountain St. Michel in the 11th arrondisement of Paris. Please pardon the mullet bangs ... it was windy!

There was even a booth for handmade dog clothes ... so you know we had to get Miss P a new outfit (or three!)... she even got a barette that reads "mini diva". She also got an Alabama (Roll Tide) sweat shirt for game days.

Fourth, we get our rescue dog next Sunday! We are so excited! We went ahead and got Apple some new outfits as well. Here is a picture of Apple in her foster home in Mississippi. We can't wait for her to be with us!

I got some new stuff to try on my hair at my appointment last week. BTW- Did I tell y'all that I got BANGS? I love them! I think the last time that I had true bangs was during my freshman year of college (I specifically remember that they were inspired by Heidi Klum). But back to the product -- it's called Moraccanoil and you just put it in your hair after you have towel dried. It made my hair feel amazing! Here is what a website has to say about moroccanoil:

You can order it here

Moroccanoil™ has developed a unique, ultra light, non-greasy formula that seals in shine producing silky perfection for all hair types.

Moroccanoil™ combines traditional methods with contemporary needs and technology. It revitalizes hair and brings new opportunities to stylists and salons. For centuries Argan oil has traditionally been used by women in Morocco to treat hair and nails in order to counteract the effects of the hot climate and aging. The Argan tree only grows in an area of South West Morocco called Argana. It flourishes in the desert-like conditions and produces lush fruits much like olives yet larger and rounder. Inside the fruit grows a large nut that houses up to three almond-shape kernels which are the source of the miraculous oil.

Argan oil contains unsaturated fatty acids and is rich in tocopherols which works like vitamin E (nature's most powerful antioxidant agent). Argan oil naturally renews cell structure and always consistently restores shines to dull lifeless hair.

The shoe bug hits again ...

Okay, so I know that I just got a new pair of shoes, but I am obsessed with these chanel ones. I mean, how freakin' cute are they. Maybe some of my Nashville girls can confirm or deny ... is there a Chanel in the Mall at Green Hills in Nashville? Someone told me that there was, and then I looked on the Chanel website AND the Mall website with no avail. I know for a fact that there is one in Cincy and ATL, so I am just going to have to either call or roadtrip to get these puppies.

Pumpkin Spice Lattes & Dieting ...

Yet again, it is time for Starbucks to break out one of their seasonal specialties -- the pumpkin spice latte! FYI- they actually have the PSL syrup around all year long, they just promote it in the fall (I really couldn't picture myself drinking it any time of the year but now, but just in case you're curious ... ). Talking about Starbucks makes me laugh because one of my friends and I recently had a conversation about exactly what they put in the "reduced-fat" coffee cakes to make them taste so good. I mean, have you ever tried one? They are to die for, and with promises of being "reduced-fat" where can you go wrong? Well ... I am here to tell you that I looked up the nutritional content via their website and "reduced fat" to them is 9 grams of fat and almost 400 calories ... somewhat similar to a pasta dinner. Just as my college nutrion teacher always told us, "Reduced-fat does NOT mean low fat at all ... " Oh Tammy, you were so wise. So just to calculate my daily Starbucks intake ... (about 300 calories for the drink + 400 calories for the coffee cake = 700 calories) !!!! Really though, I could care less how many calories I eat for breakfast ... or during the whole day for that matter. All I know is that their coffee cake is a LPOH (little piece of heaven) and I intend to keep eating it.

I love the 80's ...

May I just say that I have not stopped laughing since playing with yearbookyourself.com ... This is what R and I would have looked like circa 1984 ... You just upload a photo of yourself and voila! It puts your face in a template. I just love the look of the feathered mullet and teased bangs.

Guaranteed Way to waste time: www.yearbookyourself.com

I am now obsessed with:

My new Louboutin's! I worked for them! I love them, they are amazing. I bought them with my own money. Things take on a whole new meaning when you are slaving to purchase them. Oh how I love shoes.

Another Blonde Blogette

Last week I did a post on Michelle Obama in the midst of the DNC. This week I'd like to post about Meghan McCain, John McCain's daughter to recognize the RNC. She is 23, a graduate of Columbia with a degree in Art History, and loves fashion! I have thoroughly enjoyed looking at pictures of her and seeing what she is wearing. She started a blog called "McCain Blogettes" that I have been semi-obsessed with over the past few days. She is chronicling the campaign trail with her father complete with pictures and funny commentary. It's definitely worth checking out. It appears that she loves fashion just as much as I do! Enjoy!

Oh how I love the south ...

So, this weekend was somewhat eventful for the PIPM camp. On Saturday, R was offered a good amount of money to deliver a boat up to the southeastern side of Chicago for his brother-in-law who had sold it on ebay. Since we had no labor day plans, we packed up and headed north with Miss P in tow (lampshade and all). Let me say that I love visiting Chicago, NYC, etc. but I have never actually driven to these places and had to experience the desolate corn-filled areas that you have to drive through to get there!!

We started out going through Arkansas, which is fine because we'd been through Arkansas before. Once we hit Illinois .... man, is that a LONG state! I would be fine if I never had to see another corn field again. Where are the signs for pecan logs or boiled peanuts? Where are the signs for asian spas and Cracker Barrells?!

I think Illinois may have been the most boring drive of my life. And to top it off -- at about 12 am on Saturday night I am frantically searching on my iphone (with slow data and no 3g) for a hotel in one of the few cities outside of Champaign, Il. I call, call, call, ..."no vacancies" .... excuse me?!?! Why in the world would hotels in Mattoon, Illinois be sold out! So finally we drive an extra HOUR to get to Champaign at 1 am only to have to sneak Miss P in my large LL Bean bag because NO HOTELS are pet friendly. Did I mention she was wearing her lampshade (imagine the difficultly here). And have I mentioned before that Miss P HATES being stuffed in bags (this completely crushes my hope for getting her in the LV dog carrier). So imagine her trying with all of her might to get out of the bag while I was literally running up the stairs. By the time we get in our room it is 1:30 am and Miss P thinks she has to bark at everything she hears. Finally we all fall asleep only to wake up at 7 am and keep trucking (I mean, we can't even enjoy the complimentary hot eggs at Drury Inn because of Miss P).

We arrive at the house around 1 pm, drop off the boat, and get the HELL out of there. People are just not as friendly up north. The people that got the boat said maybe two words to us ... max. I don't think we've ever driven so fast to get back to Memphis, which still took forever. People just don't realize how far south Memphis is in Tennessee. We border Mississippi and Arkansas. It took us TEN hours to get home. So finally, we are all back in the south and loving it.
