PIPM: Pretty in Pink Megan: August 2012

So I have a confession: I got a new fall handbag.  I have a general one in, one out rule for handbags.  I decided to sell one of my Prada bags that I didn't carry to get this Celine Luggage tote in souris drummed leather with contrast stitching.  I wanted this bag a long time ago, but when it became really popular I was no longer interested.  It kept haunting me and really how can you avoid seeing it? I think it's a good color for fall and will go with a lot.

I wore one of my favorite Nordstrom sale finds this week -- Robert Rodriguez Blazer.

What do you all think of my hair color right now?  It's about 80% my natural color as most of the highlights from early spring have grown out.  I teeter back and forth about getting it a little darker for fall.  Not too dark though, just maybe a shade darker to get the highlights out.

I am dying for these fun Tory Burch fox slippers.  I definitely want some slippers with cats, but these may have to suffice for now.  Tory Burch is having a big sale this weekend!

I love this look that Diane Kruger wore this week in Paris.  Pointed toe flats are everywhere right now and I love the polka dot ones she is wearing.

I am also loving Emma Stone lately.  This outfit is so simple, but looks so great on her.  I love these Rag & Bone booties too.   I think I need the Rag & Bone jeans she is wearing as well.  They make her legs look great.

Are you all doing anything for the long weekend?  Nothing going on around here except for cleaning and organizing.  I am hoping to get a lot done with the day off on Monday!

Do you all have that one item in your closet that is your go-to for any time you don't know what to wear?  Mine just happens to be this black J.Crew dress from a couple of years ago.  I literally wear it every time I am stressed in the mornings and don't know what to wear.  I wish they still made this particular dress (the muse dress) because I'd buy it in every color available! It's a super light weight material and is not constraining at all like their Teddie dress is on me.

I love this scarf that I got recently from Gap.

Natural Living?

In my life I've always gone back and forth on being healthy and eating clean.  I started college as a dietetics major (that soon changed) and I used to be obsessed with eating healthy.  I didn't eat red meat and wouldn't touch anything fried.  After college I indulged in junk food and started eating what was easy and convenient.  About 2 years ago I had a revelation about becoming more holistic and attempting to lead a healthier lifestyle.

My first step in this quest was to stop drinking sodas of all kinds.  I stopped drinking diet cokes two years ago and haven't had one since then.  My next step was becoming a vegetarian and attempting to eat less processed foods and more organic and natural foods.  This is a constant struggle because as many of you know, it's so much easier to just to grab a pack of 100 calorie pop-tarts (not that I eat those ALL the time or anything) instead of fruit or nuts.  I am now obsessed with hormone free milk and creamer and organic foods.  I can't say that I eat these exclusively though as I will be the first to admit I stopped at Chick-Fil-A last night at 9pm and ordered a large fry with Chick-Fil-A sauce.

I soon realized how many bad chemicals are in everything that we use on our bodies.  Deodorant, lotion, shampoos, hair dyes ... they are literally everywhere.

I am slowly trying to migrate to using mostly gentle or chemical free products.  I realize that is impossible at times and there will have to be some things that have chemicals; there's just no getting around it.

My latest quest has been to find a hair dye that doesn't contain PPD, which is nearly impossible as most hair dyes do contain this chemical and the darker your desired hair color, the more PPD.  I actually love my natural hair color as it is now, but I would like to take it just a tad darker for fall.  I have found one hair color online, Palette By Nature, that seems to contain no harsh chemicals.

I am not an expert by any means and encourage you to find your own holistic path.  I am not trying to preach or be holier than thou, I am simply letting you all know what has worked for me and what things I am still working on.

Like I said, this is all a learning process as it seems that you learn more every day about living a healthy lifestyle.  I am always curious to know more and would love to hear your all's thoughts on holistic living- do you like mostly natural products as well or do you not mind regular products?  If you love natural products, what are some of your favorites?

This was an outfit from last week.  I wore a neon H&M dress that I got ages ago and totally forgot about.  I paired it with an H&M navy blazer and some fun leopard flats that also went unnoticed in my hoarder closet.  Miss P is just an added bonus in the above photo collage.
I stopped by Sugar Plum Consignment this week to pick up a check and ended up leaving with the Burberry coat (another great deal) I am wearing in the above photos.  I also told the owner that I'd take some pictures of the awesome purses they have in the store to show you all.  You can see all of their updates via their Facebook Page.
I've been on a braiding kick lately, including braiding my hair when it's still wet from the shower and then sleeping on it to create heatless curls.  The above picture is one of my better days.  Sometimes it ends up looking like a rat's nest.
Since wearings my fun flats last week I've been thinking that I need to invest in more festive flats.  I think the above smoking slippers are so easy to wear and could spice up a plain outfit.
The ones above are L-R: Miu Miu, Joie, Miu Miu, Alexander McQueen, and Tory Burch

Lady In Red

You all will not believe the deal that I got on this red Yigal Azrouel Maxi dress.  It originally retailed for a whopping $1495.00 at a local store here.  I stalked it until absolute last call and got it for ... $90.00.  Yes, you read that right.  It is a very nice dress and I think it will work great for a ball that I have to go to in January, but I also wanted to be able to wear it casually with a jean jacket and simple accessories.

Things I'm Lovin'

Holy moly these are hot.  I am not sure how comfortable they would be because of the higher heel, but possibly with an insole and some tights or socks?  They aren't even out yet -- pretty sure they are FW 2012.

They are, however, outrageously priced.  Here is this Zara version for a much more affordable option.  Which do you like better?

Fall Florals

I absolutely love this Elizabeth & James dress.  I am envisioning it with a scarf and booties.

All three of these dresses are so cute.  The striped one will be awesome now or into fall when it gets cooler.  The sweater polka dot dress is just adorable.  The black maxi is such a good staple piece.

This necklace is pretty insane.  No words.

Military Vests/Jackets

I am still wearing this military vest from Old Navy that I purchased last year.  I believe it's still around this year as well (update: it's only 28 dollars).  I am also loving the jacket versions such as this one from Gap

What things are you lovin' lately?

IS Clinical Review + Outift

Last week I was sent a goody bag from one of my favorite skin care brands, IS CLINICAL.

They sent me their new Enzyme Exfoliating Treatment and their Instant Smoothing Eye Gel

The Exfoliating Enzyme Treatment is no joke! It's an exfoliating scrub that you can use and immediately rinse off or you can leave on for a longer treatment.  I chose to leave mine on for about five minutes and it left my face super smooth and blasted away some break out spots that I'd had for a week.

The Instant Smoothing Eye Gel was amazing and was super soothing for under eyes in the morning and evening.

Thanks for the products IS Clinical!

Here is an outfit picture from last week.  Welcome to the jungle, aka our back yard!

I know this looks like a J.Crew skirt that I've worn in the past, but it's actually a different maxi skirt.  That's pretty bad that I have multiple blue maxi skirts.  This one is more of a chiffon material and is rather see through with a slip skirt.

Casual Outfit- White Jeans & Chambray

These are the white J Brand jeans that I got for $39.99.  I wore them with a J.Crew Chambray top, J.Crew loafers (last year) and a necklace from Clash Boutique.

I love this necklace so much that I also got it in a jade green to wear in the fall.

Gap Friends & Family Picks

Gap is having their Friends & Family 30% off discount until this Sunday both in stores and online.

Per usual, I placed an order.  I really like Gap's dresses for good basics.  I also got a couple of other things at the 30% off price.

Here is what I ordered:

Are you all ordering anything or have you purchased anything in store?

One of my favorite blogs, Cheetah is The New Black, had this picture on her instagram last night of Garonce Dore for Kate Spade at the launch party:

Photo via Instagram

Okay, I am obsessed with the whole outfit.  Alicia of CINB informed me the shoes Garonce is wearing are also Kate Spade.  I've got to have a pair!

They come in black with white dots and white with black dots.  Perfection!

I have been in a real scarf mood lately.  I am one of those people that is always cold, so if I can wear a sleeveless dress or shirt and then throw a scarf on, it doesn't make me hot at all.  I think you can most definitely wear scarves in the summer as long as they are light weight.

This maxi dress is Theory via TJ Maxx and the scarf was a Gap Outlet find for only 3 dollars!!!

Yesterday I stopped by Joseph here in Memphis to return something and was in awe of the wall o' Prada:

Not sure if you can tell from this pic, but the saffiano tote in forest green and burgundy are on the top shelf.  I think these two colors would be great for fall.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Navajo Print

Last night I wore a fun scarf I found at Target of all places.  This scarf is a festive navajo print.  I wore it with an older J.Crew dress and Old Navy booties.  We took my Mom out for an early Birthday meal.

I've always loved Southwestern prints.  Here are some of my favorites:

Both Earrings: Gigi
Blue Dress: Velvet
Fringe Shirt: Velvet
Sweatshirt: WildFox
Sweater Cardigan: Haute Hippie

Floral Maxi Skirt + Hipster Hat

Tonight I wore a floral Maxi skirt which was another one of my Gap Outlet finds.

I also wore a new chain necklace from Accessory Auctions complete with the most unflattering bandeau bra in the history of womankind.

At first I tried to wear this hipster hat, but Rob wouldn't let me wear it out of the house.  He said I looked like I was trying too hard.  I kind of agreed and was having flashbacks to Ryan Lochte's fedora type hat that made him look like a tool bag.

Tool Bag Megan:

Tool Bag Ryan:

I am loving bomber jackets for fall.  I saw this one at TJ Maxx last night.  I will definitely take advantage of these when it gets a bit cooler.

I was so honored to be featured in Memphis Magazine's Blogger List.  I hate that it's my old URL, but I am working on negotiating with Go Daddy to buy my old domain back so that I can at least re-direct to my new one.  Such a hot mess.

That's all I've got for today!
